The face detection was quite impressive: aprox. 12000 photos with faces were detected. Not bad! This results in a review of a lot of old photos but also means kind of a time travel in my past
After the migration I played a bit with the brush tools and must admid that for me, this is the best feature. Though I have the NIK complete collection, I think I won’t be using it that often anymore because several things can also be done with selective “brush application” of effects. We will see. Now that I have more or less upgraded all of my photo workflow it’s time for shooting some more to be later published on my photoblog.

O.K. back at home I simply copied my Aperture library to an external HD and started the migration. It worked quite well and after about an hour everything was well upgraded. Since Aperture was only building the previews and trying to detect faces I decided to quit and make an additional backup. We will see how this will all end once the backup is done and the upgraded library is back on my MacBook Pro’s HD… stay tuned!

Congratulations Apple! You have finally made it happen. A few days ago apple launched the third version of its pro photo software. So, as I’m using Aperture since Version 1.5 and was using version 2 there was no question whether to upgrade or not, esp. at a price of 99 Euro. A few days ago I ordered the package and today it arrived. I took the time, prior to the upgrade, to tidy up my MacBook Pro’s HD and get rid of some ballast
The upgrade process itself was no problem in terms of upgrading the software itself. Finally the startup dialog told me that I had to upgrade my library in order to work properly with the newly version 3. Of cause I agreed, since I was pretty much interested of being able to use all the nice brush features that were advertised. But then I could hardly believe my eyes: A popup told the that I was not having enough HD capacity for the upgrade. To tell it in numbers: my library is about 60 GB whereas I still have 48 GB left on my drive… Do I get it right? The upgrade needs more than two thirds of the old library size as temporary space? Damned! I’m en route and forgot my external HD
But I will keep you informed about my upgrade procedure when I’m back…
